Grizzlies, a professional basketball team of America located at Memphis, Tennessee. They are part of the Southwest Division of Western Conference in NBA or National Basketball Association. Together with the Raptors (a professional basketball team of America located in Toronto), these teams were founded in the year 1995 as expansion teams for Canada in the year 1995. They originated in that same year from Vancouver, British Columbia and moved to Memphis during the year 2001. Michael Heisly is the majority owner of the team, counting J.R “Pitt” Hyde, the AutoZone founder, Barbara Hyde (J.R.’s wife), Staley Cates (equity manager) and former player in the NBA and point guard in the University of Memphis - Elliot Perry. Both the Raptors and the Grizzlies are the first NBA teams that played in Canada since the Toronto Huskies from the years 1946 to 1947.

The team was presumed to be called Vancouver Mounties originally but was forced to get another name because of many objections.
They decided to call the team “Grizzlies” as the grizzly bear is a native to British Columbia. Akin to the Raptors, the team paid their respect to the Canadian founder of the sport, James Naismith (such that they made “Naismith blue” the color scheme of the team). They were the 1st team in the NBA to have or contain a website that was created by Mr. Bob Kerstein in the year 1995.
The team was originally created by players being taken from other teams by means of a draft expansion, jointly with the 1st draft pick of the team - Bryant Reeves (center).
